About Interfaith Impact of NYS

IINYS – A Moral, Progressive Religious Voice at the Table

Interfaith Impact of NYS equips individuals, small groups, and congregations to speak out effectively to New York State legislators and administrators on important moral issues.

In January 2019, Democrats took solid control of the NY Senate for the first time since WWII, bringing with them a progressive agenda. Many of the bills being passed this session have been on the IINYS slate for years. We congratulate Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and Senate Majority leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins for moving these bills forward.

Among the major bills passed during the first few weeks of the session are the Reproductive Health Act, the Comprehensive Contraception Coverage Act, the Boss bill (prevents employers from interfering with the health decisions of their employees), early voting, limiting campaign contributions by Limited Liability Corporations, and the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act (protects persons with gender variant identity and/or expression).

This year we are active in the following areas. If you are interested in something not on this list, please email us at info@iinys.org to discuss it with us.

  • Environmental Justice, including all-clean energy by 2030 and a clean air and water and a healthful environment amendment to the NY Constitution.
  • Democracy in government: redistricting, campaign finance, and voting reform.
  • Quality Health Care Insurance for All Criminal Justice Reform: eliminate cash bail and find humane alternatives to solitary confinement.
  • Economic Justice
  • Human Rights, including LGBTQ, Anti-Racism, Immigrant rights
  • Equal Education Opportunity

Our Mission
